You have one life and you should live it to the fullest. Kshitee’s subtle portrayal is another performance to watch out for. Each one delivers beautiful performances, but it is Suhas Joshi and Nirmitee Sawant who steal the show. Each of them brings novelty to the table, exploring their individual stories. Suhas Joshi, Nirmitee Sawant, Sonalee, Kshitee Jog, Mrinmayee Godbole, Sayali Sanjeev and Suchitra Bandekar, with Siddharth Chandekar there couldn’t have been a better group of actors for this project.
The common thing linking them is the desire to break free of the shackles, some imposed by society and some by themselves. Weaved into the daily situations are their stories, the stories that have shaped the women into what they are today. From total strangers who are hesitant to talk about themselves, share a seat and even judge others at the beginning, this group of seven women develops an eternal bond as their trip progresses. Jhimma unfolds exactly how a trip with strangers would - one where you ultimately end up becoming best friends and start planning another tour. What we can delve into though, is the way this film is structured and the feeling you leave the cinema hall with.
We won’t delve into the backgrounds and stories of the ladies here, because it’s the essence of the magic that the film creates on the big screen, and should be experienced accordingly. Soon, we are introduced to each of the ladies who are to be a part of the tour. It all starts with Kabir (Siddharth Chandekar) organising an all-women’s UK tour via his new travel agency. The story is pretty simple, but it is the various situations created as the story progresses that hook you to the film. But that’s just one of the many reasons why this film deserves a watch. A feel-good film about a group of women who embark on a UK tour with a travel company, Hemant Dhome’s film brings together an unusual, yet fantastic star cast. If you’ve heard, or believe the generalised statement that two or more women can’t get along when they come together, you need to book tickets for Jhimma right away.
